Fly On The Wall | Grip Fighitng And Throwing | Tampa Florida Judo

Posted: January 12, 2022

In this Fly On The Wall Episode, Dr. Rhadi Ferguson illustrates his teaching style and the flavor of Tampa Florida Judo as he covers Grip Fighting in the advanced class with his son Rufus and goes over some of the throwing techniques in the fundamentals class.

This Fly On The Wall video is pretty entertaining because there's also some randori in here also.  You can also see why the football players love doing Judo.  Rufus (Sickles High School), AJ Henderson (Sickles High School) and Andrew Hess (East Lake High School) are all football players. Judo is an awesome sport for football. Dr. Rhadi Ferguson was also a Divison 1 Football scholarship athlete at Howard University.

Enjoy.

Fly On The Wall | Simple And Effective Guard Passing Drills | Tampa Florida Judo

Posted: January 11, 2022

Everybody knows that drilling is an important part of the skills acquisition puzzle.

if you want to be good, you have to drill and you have to practice. There's no way around that. In this video we cover some of the basic guard passing drills that we used to develop the guard passing skills of the judo and jiujitsu players in the dojo. Passing the guard is an important part of the newaza developmental process and understanding how to do this in gi and no gi situaitons is important.

So enjoy the video and note how we also add a warmup and cardiovascular conditioning component to the drills as well.

Fly On The Wall | Tampa Florida Judo | Seionage Into Kouchi Gake | Judo Throws | Foot Sweeps

One of the major problems, and any judo instructor can tell you this, is getting their students to "finish."

We do so many throws in practice but sometimes when the students get to tournaments, they do partial throws or they don't finish.

Fly On The Wall | Tampa Florida Judo | Oma Plata, Triangle, Tsukkomi Jime and some other cool stuff

Posted: January 10, 2022

Anybody who knows me knows how much I love my daughter Rhadi and my son Rufus.  In this post and video, I get to share not only a technique with you but some time that I share with my son Rufus.  In this video we go over some cool triangle (sankaku) and oma plata adjustments.  I also cover the no gi version of tsukkomi jime (thrust choke) which could also be considered kuzure ryote jime. Either way, I'm 100% sure that you will love the technique that you see here and will be able to use it immediately.

But..... HERE'S THE NUMBER ONE REASON WHY YOU MUST WATCH THIS VIDEO --  So that you don't make THIS MISTAKE that many people make when doing the oma plata and they put themselves in considerable danger!!

Fly On The Wall | Inside The Dojo | Tampa Florida Judo | Ouchi Gari And Osoto Gari In Randori

This is such a beautiful set up and a beautiful display of technique my Makai.

And anyone who teaches Judo understands how difficult it is to get your players, especially your young ones, to move in this fluid manner.
